Irish Poker Open returns in April 2019

Live poker in the past 5-6 years has taken off in a big way in India with many players heading to Goa or Bangalore or even Sikkim to catch a game or tournament series. In more recent times, there has been plenty of participation in the regional events as well with Team India being ably repped by a strong contingent of players in the series taking place in Macau and Manila especially. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is always an annual draw and players are also open to making poker trips to Europe.

The longest running NLH poker tournament in Europe and the second longest running in the world, after WSOP is the Irish Poker Open. The series was first organised in 1981 by Terry Rogers, a respected Irish bookmaker, and has successfully run up-till now, with the likes of poker legends Stu Ungar, Puggy Pearson, Doyle Brunson and Chip Reese putting in an appearance over the years.

The good people of Ireland have once again announced the Irish Poker Open 2019 to be held in the month of April in the prestigious Citywest Hotel in the capital city of Dublin, Ireland. The festival will begin on 15th April and will run till 22nd April 2019, running on the Easter weekend, as has been the tradition. The Main Event, the most exciting attraction of the festival, has a colossal EUR 1,000,000(~INR 8.15 Crores) guaranteed prize pool.

The Main Event will also feature four starting flights with buy-in set at EUR 1,150, between 17-19 April and players in the region will be able to play online qualifiers across various sites for packages worth EUR 2,500.

It is always exciting to launch the Irish Poker Open each year” one of the officials said, adding “The 2018 event smashed its EUR 1 million guarantee after attracting 1,348 entrants from 68 countries to generate a massive EUR 1,347,164 prize pool. This represents a sizeable 19 percent increase from last year’s Main Event.” Last year’s Main Event was won by Ryan Mandara for a whopping EUR 210,000.

The officials also added about the history of this series, saying, “We were blown away by the support this year in the poker community and we continue to listen to all the feedback to ensure Europe’s oldest poker tournament remains the people’s tournament, with a lot of craic on the side.

Next year will witness an Easter celebration of this grand old series, with many famous poker faces that will return and play in the festival. The complete details about this tournament can be found on www.irishpokeropen.com, with buy-ins also being made available online. The info on satellites will be released shortly, featuring a great mix of package and seat only satellites for every player.
