International Day of Happiness: Players share best moments

International Day of Happiness is celebrated each year on 20th March, originally conceptualized in 2006 by the United Nations. They say there’s nothing more important than happiness and spreading a smile every now and then. Regardless of how hard life may get or what trying times you may be going through, there’s nothing better than sharing a few laughs and happy moments.

With the ongoing fight against coronavirus too, it’s important to stay positive and think about the happy moments of life. To celebrate this day, Gutshot reached out to some of the known members of the Indian poker community and asked them to share the happiest moments of their career so far. You can find all these stories below…

“I’ve created loads of happy memories for myself in the last 5 years of my poker journey. If I have to choose a stand out memory, it would be being crowned the GPI 2017 Indian Player of the Year. Also, every time I see a deserving player from the team doing well, it gives me a sense of happiness and I feel content” – Vikram Kumar.

“For me, it has to be when PokerStars gave me the opportunity to go to the European Poker Tour (EPT) series in Barcelona and represent them there. I felt very fortunate and was very happy and grateful to them for that opportunity. I was really happy and had a great time there.” – Siddhanth Kapoor.

“My happiest day in poker till date was finishing runner-up in the WPT India 2018 Main Event. Even though I lost to Nikunj Jhunjhunwala from an initial 3:1 chip advantage at one point in heads-up, it was a great learning experience for me and a large stepping stone in doing what I love.” – Sahil Mahboobani.

“During my trip to Europe last year, we were partying in Prague and I was so happy that I lost my entire bankroll playing poker online. Also, in 2019 on New Year’s Eve, I was out on a blind date in Bangkok where the same thing happened. So, my happiness is inversely related to my poker bankroll.” – Abhineet Jain.

“I’m an always happy person. But if we talk about my happiest memory in poker, it was at the recent IPC Awards 2020 in Goa’s Big Daddy Casino when I had the lifetime opportunity to hold 3 trophies together. That was a moment I can’t express in words. Was super-duper happy and excited.” – Anant Purohit.

“My happiest monent in poker was winning the Destiny last year in December on Spartan Poker and going on to take down Destiny SNG Finale this year in January.” – Amarjeet Singh

“When I won the PSL 2 (Poker Sports League) Main Event with all the poker pros and my mentors on the final table, is surely the happiest memory in my poker journey.” – Saumit Krishnani

“The big scores I have got pale in comparison to the happiness I felt when I got appreciation messages from all the people I have helped out even a little bit. 🙂 We’re blessed to play this game for a living so we should try to always be happy playing it.”  – Raghav Bansal

“Well the one recent happy memory in poker was from 2018 when I won a Platinum Pass in a flipout during APPT Korea to go and play in the PSPC in the Bahamas in January 2019. I really hope that the situation with Coronavirus get better soon and we can all go back to playing the game we love. Till then see you on the virtual felts and stay healthy and safe!” – Sumit Sapra.
