How to play and win at blackjack ?

Blackjack is a card game that originated in America and is now played across the globe. Blackjack, also known as ‘twenty-one’ was first mentioned in the novel ‘Don Quixote’ by the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes. Multiple novels have been written about blackjack and the possibility of winning the game with different methods. Blackjack has over 100 rule variations. We have put down a basic round of the game and how it is played. 

Blackjack is a comparing game of cards between the dealer and the players, where each player competes against the dealer. Each player is given two cards face up and the dealer receives one card face up and one face down.

Method

The cards 2 through 10 are worth their face value and have points according to the card number. Kings, Queens, and Jacks are all worth 10 points, and Aces may be used as either 1 or 11. The value of the ace can be used as 1 to prevent the hand from exceeding 21 or it will be considered 11. The objective for the player is to draw cards totaling closer to 21. A hand’s value is the sum of the card values. Players are allowed to draw additional cards to improve their hands and increase their points.

Once all the players have completed their hands, it is the dealer’s turn. The dealer then reveals the hidden card and must hit until the cards total up to 17 points. At 17 points or higher the dealer must stay. The player wins if they have a better hand than the dealer. The better hand is the hand where the sum of the card values is closer to 21 without exceeding 21.

Outcomes

Some of the outcomes of the hand are as follows:

• If the player is dealt an Ace and a ten-value card called a “blackjack”, and the dealer does not have the same value card, the player wins and usually receives a bonus.
• If the player exceeds a total of 21 (busts); the player loses, even if the dealer also exceeds 21.
• If the dealer exceeds a total of 21 and the player does not, the player wins.
• If the player gets a final sum higher than the dealer and does not bust, the player wins.
• If both the dealer and the player receive a blackjack or any other hand with the same sum no one wins.

Since the 1960s, blackjack has been a high-profile target. One of the most basic strategy is that the player gets to look at one of the cards that the dealer possesses. The player is not just blindly trying to come as close as possible to 21. By showing one card of the dealer, you can make an estimate of the eventual outcome and play your cards accordingly. Blackjack is one of the most favourite games of the players. Unlike poker, where players have to compete against each other, in blackjack you compete against the dealer, the house! This creates a sense of unity among the players which eventually attracts more crowd!
