GamingMonk Acquired By Online Gaming Giant Mobile Premier League

Mobile Premier League (MPL) on Tuesday acquired esports gaming platform GamingMonk. GamingMonk hosts esports tournaments across multiple platforms including consoles, PC, and mobile phones. The platform serves as a launchpad for several gaming communities and publishers. This platform has also created a community for gamers by integrating an ecosystem for esports, live streaming and content discovery.

As MPL acquired GamingMonk, they absorbed the entire team of the brand. The acquisition will allow MPL to bring key national, regional and global tournament IPs to develop a full suite of esports and broadcasting capabilities.

As of April 2021, GamingMonk has a registered user base of more than 1.3 Million users. Talking about the acquisition, Sai Srinivas, co-founder and CEO of MPL said, “GamingMonk will help us increase our effort to understand our target audience and engage with users in an effective manner. It gives us immense pleasure to present our users with the best games to play and grow their passion for gaming. In the last couple of years, there has been an increased consumption of esports and it is becoming as competitive as any other sport.”

MPL has also launched Esports Arena, through which the brand will host several esports tournaments in games such as WCC, Chess, pool etc. Each of these free tournaments for all gamers are expected to carry a cash prize of INR 10 Lakh.

MPL wishes to take esports to the masses and using the banner of Esports Arena, the brand will have gaming titles that are mobile phone users friendly. Other than this, MPL will also be streaming the games on its social media platforms. In the past, four tournaments of games such as pool, chess, WCC etc. had more than 5 Million views in total and over 70,000 registered participants. A bandwagon of celebrity chess players such as Chess grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi, Jonathan Gaming, Soul Regaltos, Gaming Guru and others were a part of these tournaments.

Talking about the future of the brand, Ashwin Haryani, co-founder of GamingMonk said, “MPL has been one of the pioneers in changing the face of gaming in Asia. I believe that our collaboration with MPL will help us accomplish our goals and help in transforming the way our country views esports.”
