Gambling den raided and INR 1.02 lakhs seized in Ahmedabad

The number of people gambling in Ahmedabad has reached a new high. What could have started just to make some extra bucks has become the prime reason for multiple people to land behind bars. A house converted into a paying guest facility was used for gambling in Prahlad Nagar, Ahmedabad.  On Monday night, when on patrol duty, the police received a tip-off about the gambling activities. The officials used the tip-off and reached House no. 8, Samarth Bungalows and caught nine members involved in gambling. The house was converted into a paying guest accommodation, named as Elis Hospitality Service, operated by Mahipalsinh Chauhan.

The people arrested were identified as Chirag Thakkar, Bhaitik Sanghvi, Sachin Thakkar, Puna Thakkar, Alpesh Thakkar, Sachin Chaudhary, Ankit Thakkar, Bhumin Arida and Hareshkumar Thakkar. All of them were residents of Anandnagar, Thaltej, Ramdev Tekra, Ranip, Asarwa, Sanathal and Jivraj Park who were between the age group of 25 to 45. An FIR has been registered, and according to it, Mahipalsinh, the owner, would rent out the room for INR 2,500 a day. Chirag Thakkar, one among the 8 others arrested told that Manpalsinh had gone out to invite other people to the room for involving in the activity. The police seized INR 1.02 lakh and other items that were used for gambling. 

The entire scene unfolded when a bootlegger who had gone to deliver liquor in Bopal area was caught by the police. The police team was patrolling and they received a tip-off about a Shahupur resident coming to Iscon Platinum to deliver alcohol in the area. As soon as the bootlegger, Sarfaraz Sheikh arrived on his bike and waited near N block, the police officials rounded up and seized the Indian Made Foreign Liquor worth INR 1,500 that he was carrying.
