8 arrested while gambling in MLA quarters in Hyderabad


In spite of authorities taking stern actions, we have been hearing a lot about illegal gambling in India lately. On Thursday night, police raided another gambling den in Hyderabad, arresting several individuals present in the spot. The raid was conducted on a tip-off and the police detained a total of 8 persons.

On 18 June, Thursday, Saifabad police found these people in an MLA quarter which was allocated to late minister Mukesh Goud at Adarsh Nagar. Those engaged in the illegal activity were sitting along with INR 1.12 Lakh in cash and two liquor bottles. The police immediately arrested the participants and seized 52 playing card deck along with the cash and empty bottle from the scene.

Those arrested on the Thursday night were Kiran Kuman, a retired government employee, businessman Satish Kumar, G Gopal Rao, another businessman C Pradeep, P Murali and S Rammohan and a gym trainer Raj Kumar. However, further investigation is being carried on with regards to this matter.

It was only a month ago when Malkajgiri police team led by a sub-inspector raided a house in Hyderabad and arrested seven persons including INR 1.2 Lakh, mobile phones and other materials. Those detained also included the corporator of Jawaharnagar, B Shivaji. The police had booked a case for violating lockdown rules and also under the sector of TS Gaming Act and Disaster Management Act. The arrested individuals were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.

On 26 May, the Commissioner’s Task Force (South) arrested eight people involved in gambling at a garage in Kalapather, Hyderabad and seized INR 50,500 along with smart phones. While the pandemic continues, the police force remain vigilant of the ongoing activities around them. Some regions in India have also started imposing fines upon people violating the rules and norms.
