Femi Fashakin: Poker Player Wins Largest-Ever WSOP Tournament!

Becoming a millionaire overnight, yes, that happens in the poker world! If you have the required skills, dedication to grind for long hours, great observation and of course patience is the key, then you can master a poker tournament. “When I found poker, I couldn’t believe it. I was like, ‘This is a game I can analyze and use my mind on’.” said Femi Fashakin.

“So I got a little more interested in the game and started watching WSOPs and WPTs.” The biggest tournament in the history of World Series of Poker (WSOP) came to an end that day with the 50th anniversary of WSOP experiencing a never-before-seen, record-breaking entry in BIG 50!

The Florida software engineer, originally from Nigeria, had under $60K in Hendon Mob cashes and his largest score was $11,250 prior to this day. Fashakin learnt his poker in local bar and eventually move up the stakes in Tampa and then South Florida events. “I stared playing at local bars. Hold’em and all that. I played that about six months to one year. And I thought I had graduated. So, I started playing at the Hard Rock in Tampa and I had a few cashes. Then I started to go to South Florida and played some $360s and then some $570s,” he told reporters.

The largest tournament ever with 28,371 entries, the 2019 WSOP Event #3: BIG50 – $500 No-Limit Hold’em concluded with Fashakin turning $500 into a life-changing $1,147,449 along with a coveted gold bracelet! That was his first final table and his first title which put him in 321st place in the 2019 Player of the Year race, sponsored by Global Poker.

After 4 days of intense battle at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, it took 7 hours for Fashakin to rail out Paul Cullen in heads-up to claim the title in the special event celebrating 50th Annual WSOP. His first words after winning were: “Overwhelmed, it’s really amazing, super excited. I can’t even describe it, but I’m also grateful, and it’s a humbling experience. It’s my third cash at the WSOP here in Vegas, and I think it’s been okay so far! I didn’t really plan a celebration because I wasn’t sure. But I had a feeling! Today I sprinted in the hallway of the hotel, and I thought when I get to the end of the door, I’m going to stop there and visualize the bracelet. I did that sprint, and I saw it…”

Fashakin successfully navigated the largest field in WSOP history with only one goal in mind: just staying alive! Right now the poker enthusiasts who created a history has over $1.26 million in live earnings. Fashakin also cashed over $10K in 2020 Lucky Hearts Poker Open, Hollywood WPT Championship.
