Looks like things are finally beginning to look up for college students in India. Mobile Premier League (MPL) is currently hosting a College Premier League (CPL) for college students across India. CPL is an esports tournament specially designed for college students where they will be able to win prizes and scholarships worth total of INR 1 Crore!
The tournament will feature games such as Rogue Heist, Speed Chess, Pool and World Cricket Championship (WCC). Avid gamers can now put their gaming skills to good use and win scholarships and prizes to boost their academics and future plans. This is a notable initiative by MPL as students have the opportunity to use their skills in a beneficial way.
Sai Srinivas, MPL co-founder said, “Over the last few months, we have seen a tremendous boost in online gaming. Not just as a means of keeping audiences entertained, but also as a viable career option. Through the College Premier League, we are hopeful of creating awareness about these opportunities and their potential.”
College Premier League will be held in four stages: intra-college, regional, zonal, and national tournaments. The intra-college part will be held between 27 November – 30 November. The finalist will be able to livestream their games on all MPL’s social media channels with influencers such as comedian Tanmay Bhat will be hosting them. The streams are calculated to reach a potential audience of over two million.
With the budding esports market in India, this tournament will also be a significant catalyst in pushing the movement forward. The young user base in India is a fertile ground for esports companies to make their mark in the sector. Esports may very well be the football and cricket of tomorrow, with more upcoming tournaments and leagues it’s hard to ignore it’s rising popularity the consciousness of the youth.
