Dan Bilzerian is in the news again, and even this time, it is not positive. He has sued his dad, Paul Bilzerian, for $50 Million, and it all stems from their cannabis company, Ignite International Brands, Ltd. The concept was simple: Dan was the public face of the company, and Dad Paul was handling the business. However, the younger Bilzerian was ousted from the company, and it continued using his likeness in its advertisements.
The situation gets murkier, with the elder Bilzerian under investigation. The US Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) contends that Paul Bilzerian used Ignite’s resources to pay off a decades-old $33 Million fine that ballooned to $180 Million after evading them for decades and serving only 13 months out of a 48-month jail sentence. It’s all pretty controversial, with Ignite trading as a public company until 2022. As far as Dan is concerned, he has sued his father and the company for $50 Million in damages, citing copyright infringement and deceptive trade practices.
Of course, this is the next twist in the Bilzerian saga, and it will interest the poker community but not shock them. For a long time, Dan Bilzerian claimed that all his money was from high-stakes poker games. However, he rarely makes appearances in live poker events.

Bilzerian has rarely made an appearance at World Series of Poker events, which include a win in 2009, and he placed 180th at the World Championship No Limit Hold’em, taking $36,626. Interestingly, the man doesn’t have a single WSOP bracelet to his name, but one look at his Instagram account shows that he is leading the most opulent life a man can.
For years, poker followers have been sceptical about whether the younger Bilzerian has made the amounts of money shown through his social media accounts via poker. This controversy, which has money at the centre of it, might just be the talking point that Bilzerian critics need to find out how true the Bilzerian success story is. Whether it’s about Dan putting up one of his properties for sale or his blink-and-miss appearance at WSOP 2024, he is the headline more often than not.

It now remains to be seen whether the family feud becomes murkier and who will emerge victorious. For poker fans, this is an interesting story that’s evolving on the sidelines. Family feuds have always been interesting and have the potential to open the proverbial can of worms. With a purported crime at the centre of this, what unravels is anyone’s guess.
