Dan Bilzerian Father Has Allegedly Evaded Tax Charges of $180 Million

Dan Bilzerian is one of the, if not the most controversial, names in poker. His Instagram account and his life have been constantly under the scanner, and his name has grabbed headlines again, but due to a controversy this time around.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) might come knocking at Paul Bilzerian, Dan’s father, to claw back at least $180 Million in taxes that he owes since the 1980s. Paul has maintained that he doesn’t have the money to pay and has allegedly avoided a $63 Million fine in 1993 after his conviction on securities fraud charges. He was sentenced to four years in prison.

Over the weekend, authorities filed charges against Paul, saying that he parked tens of millions of dollars in a cannabis company purportedly run by his son, Dan—Ignite International Brands Ltd, which traded publicly until it went private in 2022.

Paul famously said that he didn’t have a bank account back in the nineties. This is in spite of his reputation for being a ‘corporate raider’ and having once tried to take over Singer Corporation in the late eighties. Things are heating up for the elder Bilzerian, with the authorities looking to snag him again so that justice can prevail.

“This indictment alleges a long-running pattern of criminal behaviour to avoid a regulator’s judgment, mislead investors, and cheat the IRS,”  “My office will continue to use all tools available to protect investors and ensure the security of our nation’s economy,” said Martin Estrada, the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California.

Bilzerian made headlines earlier this year when he put his LA property on the market with an asking price of $25 Million.

About Dan Bilzerian

He leads a lavish lifestyle, which he claims is fuelled by his poker cashes. However, according to Hendonmob, his only recorded cash was at the WSOP in 2009 at the $10,000 World Championship No Limit Hold’em, where he placed 126th and cashed $36,626.

His social media account, though, has more than 31 million followers. He also announced his run for the presidency in 2015. Bilzerian had had several run-ins with the law during his time, including a model alleging that he threw her off a roof wrongly during a photo shoot for Hustler magazine.
