Chi Zhang Wins partypoker MILLIONS Germany €50K SHR

The inaugural partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Germany is currently underway at the Kings Casino, Rozvadov. In the last couple of days, we reported stories of the two completed €25k Super High Roller events, one won by Patrik Antonius of Finland, and the other won by Germany’s Johannes Becker, for different prize amounts.

Next up was the €50,000 Super High Roller event which was all set to produce a huge prizepool. A total of 47 entries were registered (36 unique and 11 re-entries) and the prizepool was taken up to €2,232,500, doubling the amount up for grabs in the second €25k high roller.

After Day 1 of the event, it was Italy’s Mustapha Kanit who ended with the chiplead, even though he was the last person to register for the tournament. With over $15 million in total poker earnings and currently #1 on Italy’s all-time earnings list, one would’ve expected him to keep the advantage and take home the title. However, a certain Chi Zhang came in his way!

Chi Zhang (known as Michael Zhang on the Hendon Mob Poker Database) from United Kingdom may not have been too well known before this victory, with a little over $0.5 million in live poker earnings and a previous best live cash of just $142,421, in 2017. However, he will be much better known now, having shipped the MILLIONS Germany €50K SHR, and taking home a massive prize of €800,000 (~INR 6.35 crore) for first place.

Poker pros like Kanit, Tobias Ziegler, Felipe Ramos, Dietrich Fast and others were all a part of the final table and Zhang will be extremely proud of his achievement here. He faced Kanit in heads up and had a 2:1 lead coming in to that stage, having eliminated Timothy Adams in 3rd place.

Zhang took a huge lead in heads up, only for the Italian to fight back. After a while, Zhang went all in with pocket fours which was called by Kanit, who held A-9 suited. The board ran dry with Q-high and having provided no further assistance to the players, Zhang’s pocket fours was enough to have him crowned champion!

Final standings:

  1. Chi Zhang – €800,000
  2. Mustapha Kanit – €500,000
  3. Timothy Adams – €362,500
  4. Tobias Ziegler – €260,000
  5. Felipe Ramos – €180,000
  6. Dietrich Fast – €130,000
