Chandigarh gambling den raid; INR 2.52 Lakhs seized


Turning out quite unusually, a gambling den in Chandigarh had a different story to tell. Involving young to older men from various professions, this specific group makes us think of the time that we are going through. The current lockdown due to coronavirus has left school goers, businessmen and even housewives to turn their attention towards other activities. 

At Khuda Alisher village of Chandigarh, 20 people were arrested and INR 2.52 Lakhs were recovered from a gambling den. The illegal activity took place in a farmhouse at Khuda Alisher. After the senior superintendent of police Nirmala Jagadale received multiple reports, a raid was conducted and it was learned that the 20 individuals involved were of different age groups and professions. Starting with a 12th standard student to a fruit seller and garments shop owner, all of them were in this together.

Those arrested have been identified as Mohhammed Sanju, Mukesh, Hemant Kumar, Harvinder Singh, Parvinder Singh, Vinod, Suresh Kumar, Sachin and Akash, between the ages group of 20 to 30. Manoj, Jatinder, Lucky, Sumer Kumar, Jasnir Singh and Puneet who are between 30 to 40 years old. Rattan Lal and  Manish Kumar between the age group of 40-50. The eldest among them being 50-year-old Jai Bhagwan, a street vendor and the youngest being an 18-year-old class 12 student from Kishangarh village.

Some were employed as a car washer, farmer, househelp, fruit seller, street vendor etc. Others were owners of Utensils shops, garments shops, private job holders, jeweller etc. Many among them were from Kishangarh Village, while the others are from Panchkula, Baddi, Bapu Dham colony, Khuda Lahora, New Indira Colony Manimjara, Nada village in Mohali, Sonepat. Among the 20 arrested, four of them are unemployed. A case under the gambling act was registered immediately on the 20 of them.
