Casino visitors being paid $20 for wearing mask in Las Vegas

With certain regions around the world reporting COVID-19 recovery cases, several casino operators are reopening the doors to visitors. Las Vegas, one of the world’s most electric cities spent several days in darkness ever since the virus took over the world. Casinos owners and employees are one hardest hit by the pandemic but now with pace at which people are recovering, more than half of the nation’s casinos have reopened.

Casino employees as well as the visitors have to adhere by strict norms while entering the venue. The operators have fixed plexiglass barriers on tables where distancing could be a bit difficult. Certain casinos also have standalone washing stations and strict screening and temperature checks. While wearing mask is of course the most basic necessity.

In May, the CEO of Caesars Entertainment Tony Rodio announced a phased plan to open Vegas properties. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, operators of five reopened casinos on the Strip are encouraging people to wear masks inside Caesars Entertainment by giving out $20. A promotions team inspected the Caesars Palace, Paris, Flamingo,The Linq and Harrah’s checking whether people present in the venue were wearing masks while engaging in the gaming activity. All 375 guests present got $7,500 that day. Only Caesars Rewards members are eligible for the promotion, but anyone can sign up for the program on the spot to receive the money.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board updated its health and safety policy for casinos last week, tightening rules for those sitting down to play. The rules require the players to wear masks at tables without plexiglass partitions. The nutrition and local health authorities say that mandating guests to wear mask all the time could prevent a further influx of new virus cases. Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak said “We’re not in a post-COVID time, we’re in the middle of a COVID-19 pandemic. We’re right dead-smack in the middle of it.”
