MGM Resorts and Caesars to reopen casino properties!


The world has been under the state of lockdown for over weeks and the novel coronavirus has created a drastic impact on the economy of several countries. But with cases of fast recovery, the government is reopening businesses by following strict measures to combat the harmful virus. Two of the largest casino operators, Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts announced their plan for reopening their Las Vegas casinos.

On Tuesday, Tony Rodio, CEO of Caesars Entertainment announced a phased plan for opening the gates of the property in Vegas while MGM Resorts released a seven-point health plan for reopening of its Sin City casinos.

The plan of MGM Resorts somewhat reflects to the guidelines released by Nevada Gaming Control Board which promotes social distancing by taking out slot machines and discouraging crowds behind the players at the table. The plan states that the company is “awaiting additional guidance from state and local authorities, and our medical experts before determining if our poker rooms may be safely reopened.”

MGM Resorts and Caesars plan to reopen casino properties!

MGM plans to reduce players from each table, they are also offering handwashing stations on casino floors, and frequently cleaning the tables, and disinfecting slot machines. The employees will be given temperature check daily. Interim CEO of MGM Resorts, Bill Hornbuckle told stated that casinos “will not look the way they used to for a while, and that’s not only okay, it’s critically important.” If everything falls in place, Hornbuckle plans to reopen the casinos later this month or in early June.

Caesars’ Las Vegas Strip casinos are permitted to open for business and the company will gradually open Caesars Palace, followed by its “value-oriented” properties. At first, Caesars in planning to reopen nine Strip properties, 3 Atlantic City resorts, 2 Lake Tahoe properties, and casinos in Council Bluffs, IA.

Rodio stated, “We are implementing new protocols focused on the well-being of our team members, guests and communities to create environments with high standards of sanitization and physical distancing practices. We are working closely with public health authorities, gaming regulators and infectious disease specialists to design our plan.”
