Cao Ngoc Anh wins APT Vietnam Championships Event

Earlier today, we wrote about the World Poker Tour (WPT) announcing their first ever live poker tournament series at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. We spoke about the rise of poker in Asia and the inaugural WPT Vietnam will become one of many series to take place in Ho Chi Minh since the start of the year.

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) is the biggest poker brand in Asia and they just finished their second stop in Vietnam for the year. The APT Vietnam Championships 2018 kicked off on 11th July and ended yesterday, 22nd July; the series ended with the prestigious Championships Event.

A majority of the participation in this event was from local Vietnamese players and even the final table saw 5 of the final 8 players being Vietnamese. The tournament ended after 5 days, with Vietnam’s Cao Ngoc Anh outlasting the field of 213 entries that saw some of Asia’s best players participating.

Ngoc Anh did brilliantly to win the tournament and he was rewarded handsomely for it as well, taking home the massive prize of VND 1.34 billion (~$56,840) and the APT Championship Ring for first place. It was his highest live cash by a long way and this win quadrupled his career live poker winnings as well.

One Indian player to do well earlier in this series was Devesh Thapar, who finished an impressive 13th in the Main Event. However, we’re hoping to see more Indian participation and more Indian winners in the next APT tournament series, with APT recently partnering with Baadshah Gaming to host online and live satellites to win APT packages.
