Daniel Negreanu recently suffered a loss at the hands of fellow player Phil Hellmuth at the High Stakes Duel on PokerGo. It was the second time Negreanu faced defeat in one of the most thrilling games of poker.
The first game held between the two poker players saw an extraordinary game of poker and was a treat to all poker lovers. One could expect nothing but fireworks when the two players came face-to-face again. The second game was equally full of action and kept everyone watching on the edge of their seats. Just like the last time, Hellmuth made an excellent comeback. Even though Negreanu seemed to be in control throughout the game, he couldn’t emerge victorious.
Later on Ngreanu shared a series of tweets wherein it seemed like the poker pro had done some serious introspection about his game. The 11 tweets-long thread saw the player venting his heart out on Twitter. He confessed about the heat he has been receiving from the public after the series of losses. He defended himself saying he had the lead in both matches before higher blinds forced higher-variance play. He appreciated Hellmuth for his game during the second match. Negreanu also said he is waiting for the third match and is happy that he still has another chance to win. At the end of the thread he left a message for all his critics by sharing a quote by Theodore Roosevelt which read “It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better..”

However, the tweets didn’t go quite well with one of Negreanu’s critics and Hellmuth’s friend, Brandon Cantu. Cantu called Negreanu’s play during the second game ‘horrible.’ He further said that Negreanu’s third loss against Hellmuth will prove that he isn’t that great playing heads-up. Cantu called Negreanu’s game painful to watch.
Things got serious when Negreanu insisted on Cantu to put up some money for a bet. Cantu later shared personal screenshots of Negreanu insulting him. Cantu kept provoking Negreanu, but didn’t seem too interested in placing a bet on Negreanu and Hellmuth’s third match. However, he said he would “wrangle up some big, big, big money” for his own match against Negreanu, and that he’d play a best-of-7 series under the same structure as “High Stakes Duel.” After that the banter got unhinged and looked like Cantu was saying he would play for Negreanu’s net worth. He also added that PokerGO can film the match and Negreanu shouldn’t show up unless he was ready with at least $100 million.
