Benjamin Pollak Wins EPT Barcelona €50k High Roller

It was just another day at the office for French poker pro, Benjamin Pollak, who ended up victorious at the Casino Barcelona, shipping the EPT Barcelona €50k Single-Day High Roller. The European Poker Tour began its stop at Barcelona on 21st August and a few winners have already been crowned before Pollak.

Pollak also finished fifth at the €100k Super High Roller in this series, which was shipped by Mikita Badziakouski. However, the Frenchman ensured he did nothing less than winning it this time, beating 69 entries (54 unique + 15 re-entries) and taking home the top prize of €979,000 (~INR 8.05 crore).

This was the player’s second 7-figure score in live poker tournaments, after the $3,500,000 he earned for an amazing run that saw him finishing third in last year’s World Series of Poker Main Event. He beat countryman Jean-Noel Thorel in heads-up of this particular tournament, while taking his live winnings past the $11 million mark.

“You know, there is usually a key moment in a tournament and as of 20 left, everything went my way and the stack kept getting bigger,” he said after shipping the tournament. He’s talking about an amazing run where he tripled-up with pocket Aces when there were around 3 tables left, then sent 4 opponents to the rail and burst the money bubble with a double knockout.

Eventually, only the top 9 players were paid out in the tournament, with Matthias Eibinger being the first to be paid out, with a prize of €97,090. Remember, he was also in the news earlier for leading the final 9 of the €100k Super High Roller, but he wasn’t able to close off a win there.

Final table results:

  1. Benjamin Pollak – €979,000
  2. Jean-Noel Thorel – €703,000
  3. Alex Foxen – €456,900
  4. Ryan Riess – €344,700
  5. Mikalai Vaskaboinikau – €267,800
  6. Seth Davies – €207,500
  7. Jack Salter – €164,000
  8. Jan-Eric Schwippert – €127,200
  9. Matthias Eibinger – €97,090
