The Asian Poker Tour (APT) is one of the most well-known poker tournament series in the Asian circuit. Ever since 2003, the series has been hosted across various locations in the continent, and each of them has given the poker players a stage to showcase their poker skills. It has played a crucial part in the growth of the sport in the Asian region.
APT was founded in 2008 by a group of poker enthusiasts who noticed the growth potential of poker owing to its interest in Asia. The primary objective of the APT has always been to establish a professional and competitive poker tour in the region. APT aims at becoming a prime series in Asia just like World Series of Poker (WSOP) is.
Technically, the first-ever APT event was held in Singapore in November 2006. However, it was only in 2008 that the tour officially kicked off. It quickly gained a lot of popularity among both professional as well as recreational poker players and gradually attracted participants from all over the world.
Asia’s biggest poker series features events of a variety of poker events, including No-Limit Texas Hold’em, and Pot-Limit Omaha, among several other variants. Generally, the tour is hosted over the course of several days, with multiple tournaments running simultaneously.
Additionally, the series includes events of low stakes as well as high stakes. It also features satellite tournaments and side events to cater to players of all skill levels and bankrolls.
Over the years, APT has taken several stops in Asian countries such as the Philippines, Macau, South Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, and India, among others. Apart from some action-packed poker games, the series also offers world-class luxuries to its players through its glamorous venues and resorts.
Similarly, the series has seen participation from several top players from all across the globe. Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, Stephen Chidwick, Jason Koon, Sean Winters, Punnat Punsri, among others, are just a couple of names.
Indian players have also graced the APT events in large numbers in the recent past. Zarvan Tumboli, Shardul Parthasarathi, Abhinav Iyer, Kunal Patni, Akshay Nasa, Laksh Pal Singh, Ashish Munot and several others are regularly seen at these events.
Over the years, APT has become a respected brand in the world of poker. The brand’s well-organised tournaments, including their structures, attractive prize pools and adaptability, are appreciated worldwide.
