Arjanveer Chadha wins Mega Stack on The Spartan Poker

The Spartan Poker is a poker company hosts online featured tournaments every day of the week, with varying buy-ins and guaranteed prize pools. Yesterday, the weekly tournament called Mega Stack was held, which had a buy-in of INR 3,300 and a prize pool of INR 12 lakh.

Monday’s featured tournament was won by Nitin Arora, while yesterday’s Mega Stack was won by Arjanveer Singh Chadha, who plays on the virtual felts with the username ‘instrumental’. Almost exactly equal on chips, he agreed on a heads-up deal between himself and ‘dhruvinkothari’, with both taking home similar cash prizes for first and second place respectively. The prize pool was distributed among the top 31 players with a minimum cash prize of INR 10,560.

The tournament began yesterday evening at 7:30 pm IST and after 6 hours, the players agreed on a deal after a few hands of heads-up, and the tournament came to an end in Level #55, with blinds running 22,500/45,000 – 4,500. The duo outlasted a field of 352 entries to emerge at the top.

Chadha took away INR 2,12,822 for first place as he had a slightly bigger chip stack (3,610,427) when the deal was made, while dhruvinkothari settled for second place, even though the prize amount of INR 2,11,857 was nearly the same. dhruvinkothari had 3,429,573 in chips at the time of the deal.

Gutshot caught up with the 28-year old Chadha and asked about his introduction to the game of poker. He said, “My brother went to college in Canada and when he came back for the holidays, he used to play ‘play-money’ tournaments on PokerStars and I started watching him as I was very intrigued by the game. I started watching videos on YouTube and playing with play-money myself. Next, when I went to college in Pune, I saw some students playing poker with real money for micro stakes. That was the first time I played with real money and discovered that I was very good among my peers with very little knowledge.”

“After college, I tried a bunch of things. I worked with my mom in her business, tried my own construction business, tried working with dad, but nothing gave me much satisfaction. I was playing poker on the side and was doing quite well and decided to try to become a professional. My main reason to switch was that I was doing pretty good and I had a backup plan ready if I could not sustain through poker.”

I love the structure of the tournament as the average BB in the later stages is always very healthy, so there is a bit more skill involved. There wasn't any particular hand which was most important during the tournament as I mostly tried to chip up as much as I could by winning small pots and putting pressure on opponents during money bubble and FT bubble. When I reached the final table, I had a very healthy stack and I could manoeuvre the short stacks pretty easily."After this big win, we asked Chadha what future plans he has for the game. "My plans for poker include travelling for poker tournaments. I will be going for my first international poker trip to APPT Manila in August. Hopefully, I can continue this good run in live poker too," he replied.Tonight, is an INR 20 lakh GTD tournament called Destiny on The Spartan Poker and you can be the next big winner, so sign-up if you haven't already.
