Andrew Robl Lied About Hitting A Flush Against JRB In High Stakes Poker?

Andrew Robl tried to crack a joke which did not land well while playing a hand against Jean-Robert Bellande (JRB) on High Stakes Poker Season 11. The likes of Rob Yong, Rick Salomon, and JRB featured alongside Robl and so did Charles Yu in High Stakes Poker.

Bellande had an unimpressive night with a lot of hands going against him. He lost a $503,000 pot to Yu, before playing a hand against Andrew Robl which he mucked despite having the winning hand.

The aggressive high-stakes poker player, Bellande, was playing with Q♥10♦ while the pot was valued at $83,000. Robl went for an overbet bluff with $150,000 with A♣K♦ on a board of 9♦ 2♦ J♠ Q♠ 5♦. Positioned in a tough spot, Bellande decided to make a call.

However, things went downhill from here for JRB after Robl told his opponent that he had a flush. Disappointed upon hearing that statement, Bellande mucks his cards. Andrew Robl later admitted that he was only joking and later pushed the pot in JRB’s direction. It was a bit lame for Robl to do that well knowing that JRB was having a terrible Season 11 so far.

While bluffing in poker is a skill that needs to be mastered, the question remains if a player should joke and lie while playing. It should also be considered how Bellande did not think about his opponent potentially bluffing the way to victory.

While we know Robl is a sharp player, lying was a bit of a stretch. Was Robl desperate to win? Looks like that if we consider what he said after admitting to lying about the flush situation. Bellande should have at least waited to see Robl’s cards and not go by his words and muck his cards as if there was a jet waiting for him somewhere. Such hands show how high stakes poker players also make mistakes and goes to show how it is important to not falls for jokes made on the table about hands.
