Anand Hangs By A Thread

Here’s an interesting update early at the event. Shekhar Agarwal bet 400 chips at blinds 100/100 on Table 4. He was called by Anand Babu and the flop opened to 9 Q 8 . With something for both the players on this wet board, Babu bet 1,000 from the big blind, with T 8 in hand, and Agarwal raised to 5,800, holding T T ; Babu called the raise to see a T on the turn, which meant disaster. The turn gave Agarwal a three-of-a-kind, and Babu got a two pair hand (TT, 88). Babu checked, but Agarwal bet 10,000. Babu then made a gutsy, but eventually fatal move of shoving his stack of 23,600 chips. Agarwal too, called the bet. The river of 2 didn’t help Babu and Agarwal took down the impressive pot with a three-of-a-kind. Babu now sits in the game with a mere 600 chips.

  • Agarwal: T T
  • Babu: T 8
  • Board: 9 Q 8 T 2
