The 28th edition of the Macau Poker Cup kicked off on 26th January and quite a few Indian players flew to Macau to take part in this prestigious tournament series, with hopes of bagging some big cash prizes. A total of 31 events were scheduled between 26th Jan and 11th Feb 2018, and thousands of players flew to the PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room for this event.
Two of the most famous tournaments at MPC 28 were the Baby Dragon event and the Red Dragon Main Event, which attracted hundreds of entries. At the Baby Dragon event, India’s Vinay BK had a good run to finish in 4th place, while the Main Event was won by Alvan Zheng.
The Red Dragon Main Event attracted a total field of 1,122 entries, compared to the field of 33 entries from the inaugural Red Dragon event in 2008. Ultimately, it was Alvan Zheng who shipped the tournament and secured the first-place prize of HKD 3,055,000 (~INR 2.51 crore) along with a $30,000 Platinum Package to the 2019 PokerStars Players Championship.
Adrenaline was running high at the City of Dreams over the last couple of days and a total of 4 Indian players finished in the money in this event: Kunal Punjwani finished 24th for HKD 75,900 (~INR 6,23,581), Rajesh Rajpopat finished 43rd for HKD 52,500 (~INR 4,31,331), Sahil Chuttani finished 97th for HKD 35,000 (~INR 2,87,554) and Aditya Agarwal finished 116th for HKD 32,100 (~INR 2,63,728).
The 5-day event finally came to an end when China’s Zhang defeated his countryman Junhao Hong in heads up. Zheng held pocket Aces while Hong had 10-4 as the players went all in. Zheng completed a set and Hong’s 10-pair was not good enough to stop Zheng from winning the MPC 28 Main Event!
