Alex Yen Nails 2022 WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open

Alex Yen was the chip lead when he started his game on the final table (FT) of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Lucky Hearts Poker Open (LHPO). This player ended up shipping the event for $975,240. This was Yen’s first major win, and biggest poker score so far. 

The Main Event (ME) of the 2022 WPT LHPO was a $3,500 buy-in event hosted in Hollywood, Florida. There were 1,982 entries slogging hard for the top spot. This event was the first one of the 20th season of WPT. None of the players who were on the FT had won any WPT titles.

When there was a heads up between Anton Wigg and Yen, the latter had a chip lead of 2.5:1. Wigg is an established poker pro who reportedly has more than $3.2 million in live tournament cashes. In the final hand, Yen had 9-Clubs, 7-Clubs and the flop opened 10-Diamond, 8-Clubs, 6-Clubs hi. The turn and river both favoured Yen and he became the 2022 WPT LHPO ME champion.

Yen has more than 130 big blinds and his chip lead surely helped him during the heads-up play. Right after Yen, Wigg took the runner-up spot and thickened his bankroll by $650,180. Following Wigg was Daniel Lazrus, a two-time World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner. Lazarus received a pay cheque of $482,380. Lazrus did get a chance to double up, which proved to be useful. But this former WSOP bracelet winner lost to Yen and departed at the third spot. 

Nicholas Verderamo was the next casualty on the FT after Yen’s pocket queens made him walk towards the exit door. This player took the fourth spot for $361,130. Joshua Kay and Omar Lakhdari were the players who took the fifth and sixth positions respectively. Kay cashed $272,830, while Lakhdari grabbed $208,025 in prize money.
