Abhinav Jain wins Big Daddy title on Spartan

Here’s one of the most popular poker tournaments going around in India at the moment – The Big Daddy. This tournament is popular for many reasons. Firstly, you get to be a part of an INR 5 lakh prize pool with a buy-in of just INR 880. Secondly, the winner not only takes away his tournament winnings, but also an INR 30,000 package trip to the Big Daddy poker room in Goa, where he/she can play for a chance to multiply these winnings.

The tournament is hosted by The Spartan Poker every Sunday at 4pm, giving the top players a chance to win this Goa trip before the bigger tournaments kick off on Sunday night. Yesterday’s tournament saw a total of 607 entries registering, with the prize pool eventually shared among the top 54 players with a minimum cash prize of INR 2,250.

It was all over by 9:02pm and the player who took away the largest chunk of the prize pool was Abhinav Jain aka ‘abhijain18’, getting paid INR 92,500 for first place along with the package trip to play poker in Goa. In heads-up, he beat Vishal Madan aka ‘SmackThatAceX’, who took home the second-place prize of INR 66,750. Madan also claimed an IOPC title in July, for which he won over two lakh rupees.

It was Level #39 when the tournament came to an end, with the blinds running 17,500/35,000 – 3,500. Jain held Ah Kh in what became the final hand of the tournament. Madan held 7s Qs and went all-in after the first four cards opened Qh 6d 7h 8d. Jain made the call and was lucky enough to see a 10h on the river to complete a flush and beat Madan’s Queens and Sevens.

Gutshot caught up with Madan, asking him for his comments on the runners-up finish. He said, “I registered very late, like 25 mins before late registration could end. I had to fire a couple of bullets to make a stack, but once I made a healthy stack, it was a bit easy. Was chip leader or in top 3 till FT and was playing real solid. Heads-up I just got unlucky, I had Q7 on Q678 where I raised him on the flop and pushed on the turn he called with a naked flush draw and got there on the river.
