Abhinav Iyer On To Day 6; Among Final 96 in WSOP 2021 Main Event

When we talk about some of the best poker tournament players in India, Abhinav Iyer’s name always pops up. He strengthened his position in the global poker industry when he first won a World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet in 2019. Now, he’s in Las Vegas once again, holding up the Indian flag very high as he progresses to Day 6 of the WSOP 2021 Main Event!

It’s not just any bracelet event but it’s the prestigious Main Event and when play halted on Day 5, just about 96 players were left in contention to become the WSOP 2021 world champion, and Iyer is one of them. Among the 6,650 total entries were a number of Indian players but Iyer was the only one who played Day 5, starting the day with a below average stack. However, he had a great run today and has bagged as much as 5.85 million in chips at the end of day’s play.

The day began with 292 survivors and slowly but steadily, a number of known names and past bracelet winners exited the tournament. The only previous Main Event winner in the mix was Qui Nguyen but he also got knocked out during the day which means we’re sure to see a new WSOP world champion being crowned this year. We’re of course hoping that it will be our Indian hero, Abhinav Iyer!

Towards the end of the day’s play, Iyer busted Israel’s Ravid Garbi and his stack zoomed up to 5.9 million chips at the time. The average chip stack is a little above 4 million chips right now which means Iyer is walking into Day 6 with a decent chip advantage. In fact, he’s among the top 25 top stacks at this point of time. However, he can’t take it easy or slack when he returns to the felts because there are some really top pros as his competition.

This includes top German pro and chip leader Koray Aldemir, PokerStars ambassador Ramon Colillas, bracelet winners Chance Kornuth, Robert Mitchell, Stephen Chidwick, Tyler Cornell, Stephen Song, Yuri Dzivielevski, Mitchell Halverson, Nick Petrangelo, and others. When they resume on Day 6, the minimum cash will be $59,000 which will go out to 96th place, but everyone will have their eyes on the $8 million top prize!
