A Beginner’s Guide to Pot-Limit Omaha

It was just last week that we took a 10-minutes Texas Hold’em crash course and here we are once again with another variant of poker called the Pot-Limit Omaha. Now, as we know that the pandemic coronavirus has forced you to sit at home and of course, we all need a little more excitement in life, then why not step into the virtual felts and show off your PLO moves?

Especially for the beginners, it’s a good idea to start off your poker career or even play for recreation online on various websites in the country like FTRpoker?! Now that you have mastered Texas Hold’em, PLO that is often called simply Omaha, is an exciting poker game that is strikingly similar to Texas Hold’em, although it does carry a number of differences to set it apart.

PLO is the second most popular game in the US and Europe, and this article will guide to get you acquainted with PLO. To start off, what are the rules? Both Texas Hold’em and PLO are flop games with four streets of betting and starting stacks of 100BB. Each player is exactly dealt with four-hole cards instead of two. However, the player doesn’t use all four cards to make a hand because they can compete using two of them. The player must use exactly two-hole cards and three community cards to make a five-card poker hand.

The first betting round called the pre-flop where a player can play according to the strength of their cards. They are given 3 options, call, raise and fold. Small blind and big blind are the forced bet on the table. Till the time all players have made an equal bet, the particular betting round will continue in the clockwise direction.

Now coming to the flop action, where 3 out 5 community cards open and players need to look out to make the 5 card best combination based on the hand rankings. Now the player has three options as described above. Second is the turn card, the third betting round after flop where the fourth card is dealt face up. The final round of the game is called river, where the last card of the 5 community cards are dealt on the table. This round is the last chance to make the best hand in Omaha. Once the betting round is complete, all the players on the community cards are made to showdown their cards instantly. The one with the high hand wins the pot.

Omaha, like hold’em, is a game where you need to know when it’s time to play and when it’s best to fold your cards. Be patient. Wait until your starting hand fits the range you should play, use the information you have to read your opponents and decide whether you should continue or not. And this can be easily done by practicing on various online poker sites to kickstart your poker career and FTRpoker has always been one the leading sites to provide all its users a smooth experience. And once you have mastered the game, the site promises you numerous tournaments where you can comfortably sit on your couch and start winning big!
