60 year old Pontiac resident arrested in Zhao’s Homicide Investigation


Last month the gaming and poker industry was struck in disbelief, as White Lake Township Police Department discovered a ‘badly burnt’ body in a parking area, the body was believed to be a woman between 20-30 age groups, weighing around 125-135 pounds and approximately 5 feet and 3 inches. The woman was later identified as Susie Zhao, a poker player from Waterford Township. The ongoing investigation behind the murder of Zhao since 13 July, which finally lead to an arrest of a 60 year old Pontiac resident.

On 30 July, detectives of the White Lake Police Department acquired a search warrant in connection to the murder of Zhao. The FBI task force and detectives began searching for a suspect vehicle named in one of the search warrants. Investigators were notified by the FBI task force on the location of the suspect vehicle, the following day around 9 am. Police stated that the vehicle was stopped in the area of Interstate 275 and Michigan Ave. and the search warrants were executed by the investigators. 

Detective Lieutenant Christopher Hild said, “A 60-year-old white male resident of Pontiac was taken into custody. The complaint will be forwarded to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s office review.” The man apprehended is yet to be identified by the authorities.

The 33 year old poker professional, had recently relocated to California. She mostly recently lived in Los Angeles but came home on 9 June. Her step-father and mother live in northern Oakland County. A memorial service for Susie Zhao took place on Saturday at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy, Michigan. Authorities believe Zhao, also known as ‘Susie Q’ was killed at the recreation area and then her body was set ablaze, although her cause of death has not yet been released.
