37-year-old gambling owner shot lifeless in Kalyan, Mumbai


The coronavirus pandemic has hunkered people in their own homes, creating a new normal as people are not out and about as they would. In India, many have remained confined and strapped to their houses due to the virus. Even though crime in the country has decreased yet it has not stopped but there are some who have neglected the regulations set by the health experts of the country and taken part in illegal activities in various parts of the country. 

Friday evening, a 37 year old was allegedly shot by unidentified persons in Kalyan, Mumbai. The Local police said that the man who was shot, died on the way to the hospital. The gambling owner, Jignesh Thakkar, who is also known as Munna Bhai had been operating a lottery enterprise for the past few years. He also owned Nilam membership in Kalyan west. 

Mahatma Phule Police released details of the shooting stating that the suspects are two unidentified males who fired 4 bullets at Thakkar, the gambling owner, near his work place on Friday evening. Out of the four bullets, two struck Thakkar and collapsed on the spot. The lottery enterprise owner was immediately rushed to the hospital, although he succumbed to his injuries. The police official also mentioned that a case has been registered and will be investigated further, as the accused and reason behind the murder is yet to be identified.

This nationwide lockdown has unveiled many gambling rackets in India. The police have been relentless in uncovering illegal activities. From high stakes to low stakes, men and women have been apprehended in posh places as well as open grounds at lodges. Last week, a group of people residing in Bharvi Kansagra at Sakar county in Shela village, who were involved in gambling were arrested along with cash and valuables worth INR 33,400. In Hyderabad, the posh Kalahar Bungalows were raided in Kalol by the Santej police, where 13 people were taken into custody and seized 17 high end mobile phones worth INR 4,97,000, 497 coins, INR 1,26,170 in cash and a silver trunk.
