The coronavirus induced pandemic had a serious effect on most live poker tournaments that took place in 2020. Poker platforms across the globe and in India were not ready to take that as an excuse. Here’s our list of the top Indian online tournaments that made headlines. (We have only considered guarantees in excess of INR 5 Crore GTD)
Baazi Poker Tour’s (BPT) third edition began the 2020 poker season with a bang! BPT took place between 2-14 January 2020 and had both online and offline series. The BPT series came with a spectacular 7 Crore GTD across several power packed tournaments. The 7 Crores GTD was split into 3 CR GTD for BPT online and 4 Cr GTD for the live tournament.
BPT Online ran from January 2 to 5 and hosted the Day1A INR 1 Crore GTD Main Event, INR 50 Lakhs GTD High Roller and several other massive tournaments. The BPT live tournament took place in Goa between 8-15 January, consisting the High Roller 1 Crore GTD, Main Event INR 2 Crore GTD (D 1A, 1B, 1C) and the Main Event of Day2. Gautam Sachdeva was crowned BPT’s Main Event winner and he won INR 43.21 Lakh.
The India Poker Championship (IPC) turned out to be one of the best live series in January 2020. The GTD was over INR 5+ Crore GTD and other than that the IPC also had assorted gifts for the Main Event winner. Rubin Labroo was crowned the IPC winner and he won a humongous INR 45+Lakh top prize along with a trophy, a Panerai MS Dhoni Limited Edition watch worth INR 6.67 Lakh and a sponsorship package from Spartan Poker worth INR 20 Lakh!
Rubin Labroo is also the India Main Event Champion of 2020. He featured on the cover of Gutshot’s July 2020 e-magazine.
India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) is one of India’s most anticipated online tournament series. The IOPC’s January 2020 edition featured more than 100 tournaments and had a humongous INR 16+ Cr GTD. This online poker series took place between 24 January to 9 February on Spartanpoker.com and crushed its original GTD eventually giving away 20+ Crore. Anurag Srivastava triumphed in IOPC’s Millionaire Main Event and bagged a whopping prize of INR 59+ Lakh.
The IOPC had quite a humble beginning as freeroll series in 2008-09. When it returned in the year 2016, this tournament series offered INR 8.6 Lakhs GTD at the time. From then to now, the IOPC’s growth has been phenomenal.
PokerBaazi’s End Boss tournament took place between 15-19 April and had a monster GTD of INR 5 Crores with the first place winnings of a minimum 1 Crore in prize money. The winner of this massive tournament was Abhishek Maheshwari, who won a little over INR 1 Crore in prize money.

Throughout the year, AOPS was conducted six times in the months of February, March, April, May, July, and August.
With live events coming to a standstill this year, the IPC decided to host the 8 Crores GTD Final Table Series (FTS) which took place online between 16 to 23 November 2020 on Spartanpoker.com.
Aside from that mega prize pool, FTS brought to Indian poker enthusiasts a star-studded live commentary panel. The international commentators included stars like Maria Ho, Kevin MacPhee, Sam Razavi, Radhika Shankar, Ramesh Thotapalli among others who were a part of the FTS live stream broadcast.
The Main Event had a prize pool of INR 2 Crore GTD and Arjun Pasricha aka ‘lolthisguy’ won this prestigious FTS title along with a whopping first place prize of INR 40.01 Lakhs.
The Millionaire Series and extravagance go hand in hand. Spartan Poker’s Millionaire series just concluded earlier this month. This poker fest promised players INR 5.7 Crores GTD. Oh yes! Guess who took a huge amount home after The Main Event? Star poker player, Ashutosh Balodhi was crowned the Champion and he took home INR 34.24 Lakhs for his sterling efforts.
