WSOP 2024: Aditya Agarwal Wins Maiden Bracelet In Event 82

India’s poker legend Aditya Agarwal kept up with the country’s winning streak at the coveted World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2024. The pro grabbed his maiden WSOP bracelet by shipping Event 82 $1,000 No Limit Hold’em for a sum of $189,661 (~₹1.58 Crore). Augusto Hagen from Argentina was the runner-up for $126,424.

Pokernews spoke to the first-time bracelet winner who said, “I’ve been a professional, I think, for twenty years now. I’ll be turning forty this year, and I’ve played in the World Series every year since I was twenty-one!” Agarwal also thanked his rail who supported him till the wee hours of the morning.

Agarwal further added, “They’re more than my friends; they’re my students. I would like to give a shout-out to them. They have definitely helped me be the player I am. This feels good. It’s been a rough summer. So this definitely feels good.”

India has been winning consistently at the World Series, since last year thanks to Santhosh Suvarna. Before the Mangalore-based player made history by becoming the only Indian with two bracelets, Aayush Aggarwal had scooped a bracelet in the online tournament of the series. India has been performing pretty well in the current edition of the series.

Kartik Ved finished fourth in Event #16 $5,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em for a payday of $220,373. Suvarna shipped the $250K Super High Roller NLH for over $5.4 Million. Last year, at the 2023 WSOP Europe Suvarna had nailed his maiden gold bracelet, adding to India’s bracelet tally.

Coming to Aditya Agarwal aka ‘Intervention’ stifled competition like a boss to reach heads-up. Though Agarwal had a massive 8:1 chip lead going into the heads-up session he battled pros like David Peters, Chance Kornuth and veteran Sammy Farha among others to be in the top 10 to then eventually nailing the title and bracelet. The Indian poker dynamo did not have any significant runs at the series, but this changed with Event 82 where his domination was on full display.

Agarwal also made history as the eighth Indian to claim a WSOP bracelet. The prize money won from Event 82 also marks Agarwal’s third biggest live score. This victory is India’s seventh bracelet win from WSOP Las Vegas. India’s All Time Money List puts Agarwal in the sixth position and his total live earnings as per Hendon Mob are over $1.5 Million.

Aditya Agarwal’s Winning Hand

In a crucial moment during the heads-up session, Agarwal, from the button position, moved all-in and his rival Hagen made the call risking his tournament life. The dealer fanned out a board of A♣1045♣ 7♣. This gave the Indian pro a straight and Hagen was out in the runner-up spot.
