After a lot of anticipation and wait, we have a new Poker Hall Of Fame (PHOF) inductee. The latest entrant in this prestigious hall is none other than Layne Flack. The 2022 PHOF inductee was to be announced alongside the crowning of the Main Event winner. And with that our wait for the Main Event winner also comes to an end.
Previously, PHOF released a list of 10 finalists for this coveted title. As the process goes 32 living members of the PHOF will vote and one nominee will be into the WSOP 2022 PHOF. Gutshot has profiled all the 10 nominees from this year’s WSOP PHOF and also covered the list of members who have been inducted into this premium club.
Talking about the voting for Poker Hall of Fame, the process began in June and every year one or two members from the poker industry were inducted into this elite club. The late poker pro has become the 61st member to join the exclusive Poker Hall Of Fame. Coming back to the latest entrant of the prestigious club, Flack unexpectedly passed away in July 2021 at the age of 52. He left behind a rich legacy which many in the poker fraternity will look up to.

This poker dynamo has six WSOP gold bracelets to his credit. Flack’s last bracelet came in WSOP 2008. Flack won two consecutive Legends of Poker tournaments in the year1999 due to which he got the nickname of ‘Back to Back Flack.’ The latest Poker Hall of Fame inductee also won this event in WSOP 2002 and 2003.
WSOP bracelet winner, Derick Barch aka ‘Tex’ who happens to be a close friend of Flack said, “He (Flack) was an amazing friend, more like a brother. Through good, bad and all his mischief – Layne had your back. “Layne was close to my children. He would come and spend weeks at our house. Always entertaining them, taking them places and making sure it was all about them. When my daughter died this past January, one thing that brought comfort to me was to know that Layne would be there to greet her, and they could laugh together, in eternity,” said Barch.
The Poker Hall of Fame, established in 1979, was acquired by Harrah’s Entertainment along with the World Series of Poker in 2004. Though the Hall of Fame is virtual in nature, its membership includes poker’s most influential players and other important contributors to the game. There are now 32 living members, and 59 members have been bestowed the honor of Poker Hall of Famer. The Poker Hall of Fame traditionally elects one or two members annually. The enshrinement ceremony is now held in concert with the final table of the Main Event of the WSOP, held in Las Vegas. The coveted club consists of names like Daniel Negreanu, Chris Moneymaker, Huck Seed, Eli Elezra, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Billy Baxter, Erik Seidel, Scotty Nguyen, T.J. Cloutier, Doyle Brunson among others.
