WSOP 2022: Benjamin Kaupp Wins Tournament Of Champions

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2022 has finally drawn curtains on its 53rd edition at the Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas. The final event, Tournament of Champions, has concluded with Benjamin Kaupp winning his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet.

Tournament of Champions was a freeroll tournament for all the WSOP bracelet and circuit ring winners of the WSOP 2022 edition. A total of 570 champions were eligible to play this tournament, out of which the event saw 470 entrants. The free-to-enter event had a prize pool of $1,000,000 on offer. The tournament went on for three days before crowning the new winner.

Kaupp, who qualified via a $215 WSOP PA Circuit event, took home two pieces of WSOP jewellery this year. He clinched the circuit event for $14,954 along with a circuit ring. At this event, the Pennsylvanian player added $250,000 to his bankroll and his maiden WSOP gold bracelet winner.

The newly crowned Tournament of Champions winner said, “It doesn’t feel real yet. It just hasn’t sunk in quite yet. Before this tournament (started), I was going to be just happy to cash,” Kaupp said after the victory. I’ve just been grinding online for the last couple of years, taking it pretty seriously. I play a lot of the Circuit events online. I didn’t really play poker for a while until the last couple of years when it was legal in Pennsylvania again.”

Talking about the tournament, Kaupp added, “It was very tough. At the final table, everyone was very tough, very aggressive, great with live reads, it seemed. And things went my way, and here I am.”

Kaupp beat Raul Garza in the heads-up clash to clinch the top title. Garza pushed his 2,150,000 all-in from the button with K J . Kaupp called with A 6 after asking for a count of his big blinds. The board opened T 8 2 T 5 , giving Kaupp his winning hand. Garza finished at the runner-up spot for a payday of $150,000.
