Why Is Daniel Negreanu Saying ‘Limping Is Pimping’

Poker pro Daniel Negreanu has been quite vocal in sharing about his gameplay and the strategies he swears by while playing his favorite sport. This time around, too, the six-time bracelet winner was quite bold in proclaiming against the popular belief that limping is not a good poker strategy. 

DNegs shared multiple posts on Twitter where he said that “limping is pimping.” Recently, he tweeted saying, “Just had a spike from 1% to 30% on going to WSOP Europe in a couple weeks with the goal of bringing limping back. Limpin’ is Pimpin.”

This wasn’t the first time DNegs has publicly said this statement. Prior to this, on 8th October 2022, he had replied to a his own tweet with the same words.

In another incident, on 20th October 2022, when a player by the username ‘rampagepoker’ shared how he regretted folding 33 from UTG when the flop showed 3d 3h 5s. “I fold 33 UTG and this is the flop the dealer rewards me with. FML,” he said. To this DNegs had replied with his standard “Limping is pimping” dialogue.

Limping is the action of merely making flat calls instead of raising or folding in a hand. When a player chooses not to fold or raise, but mere call in a hand, he/she is said to be limping in poker. In other words, limping is calling the minimum possible bet in order to stay in the hand. Usually, limping is considered as a bad poker strategy, however, the poker pro dares to differ. He is often seen advocating the limping strategy multiple times.
