In a rather shortlived heads-up session between Talal Shakerchi and Michael Soyza, the former has emerged victorious. In the final hand of the Triton Poker Series Vietnam 2023 ME, Soyza with QJo went all-in for 5,100,000 and his rival from United Kingdom did the same with 28.35 Million. The board ran out 6d 5d 6h 7c Kh. This gave Shakerchi two pairs (77, 66) and a memorable win. The runner-up takes home $2,207,000 and the newly crowned ME winner will laugh his wayto the bank with $3,250,000. Congratulations to the top two winners!
It will be an interesting heads-up clash between Michael Soyza and Talal Shakerchi. The 2:1 chip lead which Shakerchi has managed to keep is commendable and the ball lies in the Malaysian pro’s court to turn the game around in his favour. The top prize of $3,250,000 and a shiny new Triton Poker Series trophy awaits its winner.
German player Daniel Smiljkovic battled it out with Talal Shakerchi in a hand which proved to be fatal. Smiljkovic went all-in with 8150,000 holding 76s and his rival also followed suit with an all-in call of 12.75 Million whilst keeping faith in his 53s. The dealer fanned out a board of 7s 2h 6h Th Kh. This meant it was time to bid adieu to the ME at the third spot for Smiljkovic who added $1,450,000 to his bankroll.
Adrian Mateos had a terrible run in against Michael Soyza in a hand prior to this bust out. Mateos then played with his remaining tournament life against Talal Shakerchi holding K8o. The Spanish national had to go all-in with 150,000 which his opponent comfortably called while sitting with 83o. The board ran out 2c Js 9d 3s Tc. It was finally game over for Mateos and the disappointment of losing was clearly visible on his face. He took the fourth spot for $12,01,000.
German pro Fedor Holz was the next player to bust out. He went all-in with 4,924,000 holding pocket kings against fellow countryman Daniel Smiljkovic. This did not end well for the Pokercode founder as he ran into a board of 3d 2c 9c As Ts. Holz’ Cowboys were rendered useless as he exited at the fifth spot for $965,000.
Canadian pro Timothy Adams locked horns with the chip lead Talal Shakerchi which did not end well for the former. With AQo in hand Adams went all-in with 3,825,000 and his rival followed suit with his all-in call (7,225,000). The community cards fell Js 7c Ah 9c 2h. This is where Adams’ dream of winning the ME title ended and he left at the sixth spot for $756,000.
It was a battle of pocket jacks and pocket aces. Yes, Nick Petrangelo’s Fishhooks were up against Michael Soyza’s Pocket Rockets. Petrangelo was all-in for 3,600,000 and the board presented Qc 4h 3h Kd Tc. This is where Petrangelo’s journey in the Triton Poker Series Vietnam 2023 ME ended for $566,800.
Winfred Yu, Fedor Holz and Michael Soyza locked horns in a 3-way all-in which led to Yu’s exit. Soyza played with AKs, Yu had Ato and Holz played with KKo. Here, the main pot stood at 4,900,000 and the side pot was 1,150,000; the dealer fanned out community cards 2c 5h Ac Jc 9d. This was the cue for Yu to get up and leave for $418,400.
