Indian-origin player Santhosh Suvarna who grabbed headlines during the Triton Poker Series 2022 Cyprus is back in action at Triton Poker Series 2023 Vietnam. He was grinding in Event 5 NLH 8 Handed. This tournament has some star poker players like Patrik Antonius and Michael Soyza. What’s more exciting? Suvarna was seated on the same table as Antonius and Soyza. Can you believe it? Sure, it looks like a tough table, but Dubai-based Suvarna seems to have navigated the stiff competition with ease.
Suvarna had mentioned earlier to Gutshot Magazine that he will be grinding in the much awaited Triton Poker Series 2023 Vietnam and here he is making a splash again with some swift poker moves.
At blinds 5K/10K, big blind ante 10K, Suvarna got dealt AJo and Soyza had AKo. Both players had rolled up their sleeves to add some chips to their respective counts. The field had boiled down to 90 players from a total of 171. Soyza raised to 22K whilst keeping faith in his Ad Ks. Antonius folded his 85s. Suvarna matched his rival’s bet. The dealer fanned out a flop of 4c Qc Jd which kept Suvarna ahead with his J-pair.
He still checked his option and Soyza who sat with a straight draw chose a bet of 20K which his opponent called. The turn of 7c saw both players check and finally it was time for the river which brought 8c. Here, Suvarna thought for a bit and placed a bet of 32K which made Soyza instantly fold and might we say it was a good fold since he was losing this hand.

Former tennis player turned poker pro, Antonius sat Q6s and Suvarna had pocket aces. Antonius raised to 22K, Suvarna 3-bet to 72K and Soyza folded his J2o. The pro who’s number one on the Finland All Time Money list thought for a few seconds while staring at the community cards and threw his cards towards the dealer. Suvarna added a cool 114K to his chip stack.
At blinds 5K/10K and big blind ante 10K, the chip counts showed Suvarna as second highest chip stack of 640,000 and the chip lead was Darrell Goh who had a stack of 1,027,000. But sadly for the Indian-origin player, he couldn’t run deep in this tournament and currently the final five players are vying for the top spot.
