As most of you reading this may already know, The Spartan Poker hosts daily featured online poker tournaments throughout the week, beginning with the Mega Freeze tournament, which takes place every Monday at 7:30pm. This freezeout tournament is a favourite of many players and it often creates a prize pool bigger than the original guarantee.
Yesterday was no different as a total of 120 entries registered to the Mega Freeze INR 5 Lakh GTD, which has a buy-in of INR 5,500. The prize pool was taken up to INR 6 lakh and the top 17 players shared the spoils, with a minimum cash prize of INR 9,420 being given out.
Emerging victorious from this field was ‘Tiger10’, a player who has won before, but prefers to keep his identity anonymous. It was just a couple of weeks back that Tiger10 shipped the Triple Bubble tournament on Spartan for around INR 1.73 lakh, and now, he has shipped the Mega Freeze for INR 1,50,960, making a couple of useful additions to his poker bankroll in the month of August. The player actually won on FTRPoker, but the platform is on the same network as Spartan, after a merger in May.
The tournament wrapped up in less than 5 hours, with Tiger10 holding a slight chip lead over his opponent ‘Dark fish’ before the final hand took place. Tiger10 then decided to go all-in pre-flop with pocket Nines and with the board opening 4c 7s 4s 8h Js, he took down the title with Nines and Fours. Dark fish had to settle for the runners-up prize of INR 1,02,000.
Gutshot caught up with the winner after this tournament. Tiger10 is currently in the final semester of his Engineering studies, having started playing poker in his 2nd year at college. “The Spartan Poker used to visit my college during fests, so that’s how I came to know about online poker. In the beginning, I started with playing freerolls on Spartan and I still remember the first time I won a freeroll (it’s much more difficult than winning Mega Freeze, just kidding),” he said about his introduction to the game.
Further, he spoke about last night’s tournament, saying, “Last night was amazing. I was running hot and playing some good poker without any fear, choosing my spots wisely. The key hand in the tournament was I think in mid-stage of the tourney when HJ opens for 2x and button flats. I was big blind with 10 4. I called, and the flop was Q44 and I check, HJ goes for c bet of 33% of the pot and button flats and I re-raised. HJ folds and button min re-raised me again. I flatted, and turn was 5h and I check. He bets again, and I jammed, and he called me with q8s (I was playing very agro so he didn’t believe me and called), so that was a nice double up and from there on and it was a smooth ride. I was widening my range against some specific opponents and it really worked out.”
“Keep the grind on,” Tiger10 said about his future plans in poker. Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for more updates on the biggest poker tournaments in India, both online and live.
