Thursday Roundup: Mahboobani, Narwal And Sapra Clinch Top Titles


Thursday night on the online felts was a star-studded affair. While the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) July 2021 continues to set the temperatures soaring, the poker pros kept grinding on other online poker platforms to win truckloads of money. The virtual felts of Adda52, PokerBaazi and PokerStars were buzzing with action as Sahil Mahboobani, Sumit Sapra and Ujjwal Narwal took home impressive sums in prize money. 

Let’s do a quick recap of the night.

The Summit – ₹15 Lakh GTD

PokerBaazi’s The Summit was a blockbuster hit with 275 entries battling for the top spots. The advertised guarantee was crushed by half a million; the final prize pool stood at ₹20.63 Lakh. The top 36 places enjoyed a portion of the two million plus prize pool. The min-cash paid was ₹14,030.

Sumit Sapra aka ‘boronyx’ won The Summit for ₹4.56 Lakh. Sapra also finished second at IOPC #74 Thursday Spotlight for ₹2,03,527 on the same day. Adda52’s Game Ambassador, Kunal Patni finished second and took a pay cheque of ₹3.2 Lakh. Anonymous player ‘dilbaghsingh’ finished third for ₹2.06 Lakh.

Sagar Choudhury (4th, ₹1.52 Lakh), IPC 2020 winner, Rubin Labroo (9th, ₹45,580), Arjanveer Singh Chadha (10th, ₹33,210), Laksh Pal Singh, who also shipped IOPC #74 on the same day (12th, ₹33,210), Siddhanth Kripalani (13th, ₹27,230), Vivekk Dube (14th, ₹27,230), Vinayak Bajaj (15th, ₹27,230), Shagun Jain (18th, ₹23,310), Chirag Sodha (23rd, ₹18,150), Nitin Arora (24th, ₹18,150), Armaan Kochhar (26th, ₹16,090) and Ankit Wadhawan (27th, ₹16,090) were some players who finished in the money.

Vikranth Varma, busted at the 37th spot with two re-entries became the bubble boy at this tourney. Ritwik Khanna who shipped IOPC #72 yesterday, ended up at the 41st spot without making any money. Ram Kakkar (40th), Sanat Mehrotra (42nd), Myron Periera (46th), Dhinesh Kumar (53rd), WSOP bracelet winner, Kartik Ved (57th), Gutshot ‘Player of the Month’ Anirban Das (58th), Sanish Chhabra (59th), Manish Lakhotia (64th), The Pride winner, Dishani Vijay (66th) and Kanchan Sharma (74th) were the players who left the table empty-handed.

Highroller – ₹10 Lakh GTD

Highroller on PokerStars with a million in advertised guarantee attracted 166 entries to its virtual felts. The final prize pool of ₹11.62 Lakh surpassed the initial guarantee. A min-cash of ₹16,238 was paid to the top 20 places.

Ujjwal Narwal aka ‘CougarHunter69’ and mystery player ‘kimi_nj’ got into a deal after almost seven hours of intense gameplay. While Narwal laughed his way to the bank with ₹2,09,174, ‘kimi_nj’ with two entries took home ₹2,06,351. Arun Sriram aka ‘realruny’ also re-entered twice and walked away with ₹1,40,247 at the third spot.

WSOP bracelet winner, Abhinav Iyer (6th, ₹64,964), Rubin Labroo (11th, ₹27,424), IOPC July 2021 commentator, Goonjan Mall (14th, ₹19,337), Ankit Wadhawan (18th, ₹16,238) and Vishal Bajaj (19th, ₹16,238) were some players who managed to make it among the top 20 places.

Among those who got busted early included players like Sagar Choudhury with six re-entries (25th), IOPC reg Guruprasad Gupta (26th), IOPC #4 Blaze of Glory runner-up, Ashwin Vijay (27th), Manish Lakhotia (31st), Mithun Mahesh (38th), Shagun Jain (42nd), Sanish Chhabra (43rd), IOPC January 2021 winner, Laksh Pal Singh (46th) and Anirban Das (47th).

Godfather – ₹25 Lakh GTD

Adda52’s staple Godfather was a thrilling and action packed tournament. Out of the 465 entries, only the top 49 places got paid. The min-cash stood at ₹13,750.

Sahil Mahboobani aka ‘ImHighIshove’ topped the table and added ₹6,12,500 to his bankroll. Manish Lakhotia aka ‘newkidpoker’ was the runner-up who had a pay day of ₹3,62,500. At the third spot, ‘profishnal’ cashed ₹2,50,000.

Srihari Bang (10th, ₹31,250), Anmol Mehta (21st, ₹18,750), Vishal Bajaj (26th, ₹16,250), Gutshot’s January 2021 e-magazine cover star, Gaurav Sood (28th, ₹16,250), Mithun Mahesh (29th, ₹16,250), Ankit Wadhawan (31st, ₹16,250), Guruprasad Gupta (33rd, ₹16,250), WSOP bracelet winner, Abhinav Iyer (36th, ₹13,750) and Surbhit Grover (37th, ₹13,750) were players who managed to make it in the money.

IOPC Day 12
