Thursday Round Up: Gokul Raj, Arsh Grover & Akshay Kapoor Emerge As Big Winners


The online felts were bustling all day yesterday as poker brands continued to drop their high-value tournaments. With big poker events like APT India Online Series 2021, World Poker Tour, and the 2021 WSOP Online taking place, the poker circuit has experienced a surge in player participation. This did not slow the action down on other platforms like Spartan Poker and PokerStars, who still drew in players to its fold. Let’s take a look at what went down.

Trending Thursday – ₹21 Lakh GTD

One of Spartan Poker’s most popular tournaments, Trending Thursday welcomed 431 total entries and surpassed its original guarantee. With a buy-in of ₹5,500 the event was a hit and paid a min-cash of ₹14,869 to the top 39 entries.

Taking down the title was Gokul Raj aka ‘The Greek Freak’ who took home a pay cheque of ₹4,32,077. Raj defeated player ‘maniamachi’ who ended up in the second position for ₹2,87,261 in prize money.

Monster Stack – ₹8 Lakh GTD

This Spartan Poker event was stormed by a total of 452 entries among which there were players like Kanchan Sharma, Vivek Singh, Dhirendra Kumar, Ritwik Khanna etc. The final prize pool was ₹9,04,000 which surpassed the advertised guarantee. In the ₹2,200 buy-in tournament, the top 47 places were paid a min-cash of ₹5,152.

FTS Kick-Off Winner Arsh Grover aka ‘BigggTymeR’ struck a deal with player Meet Jariwala aka ‘gogobhai’ and took the top spot. Grover walked away with ₹1,76,189 in prize money while Jariwala pocketed ₹1,11,915. FTS Big Game winner Dhirendra Kumar aka ‘dhiru91’ was the unfortunate bubble boy in the event busting in 48th position.

Highroller – ₹10 Lakh GTD

PokerStars’ Highroller event had a buy-in of ₹7,700 and saw a total of 130 entries compete in the tournament. Only the players who made it to the top 15 spots were paid a min-cash of ₹18,787.

The lion’s share of the prize pool was taken by Akshay Kapoor aka ‘LalaSaab’ when he shipped the tournament for ₹2,19,185. Ashwin Vijay aka ‘Ashwinvijay’ was the runner-up and took home ₹1,68,902 in winnings.
