A Cambodian casino, Thmar Pich, came under a grenade attack in the Leuk Daek district of the Kandal Province of Cambodia, near Phnom Penh, the Cambodian capital. The incident occurred last Thursday, and the authorities have arrested three suspects. Initial reports say that the bombing is the result of a dispute between the casino’s Vietnamese owner and the accused.
According to initial reports, the bombing was a straightforward matter of a group of six driving to the casino, shooting and lobbing a grenade at it. Three of the assailants have been arrested and charged with ‘attempted murder and unauthorized possession of a weapon’. The police are on the lookout for the others. The group of attackers include a 52-year-old Cambodian and two Vietnamese nationals. The Vietnamese nationals are suspected to be past casino patrons. Research shows that the casino has rarely hosted any of the major poker series. A security guard sustained injuries in the attack and was rushed to the hospital,
Cambodia’s prize diamond when it comes to casino and poker venues is NagaWorld in Phnom Penh. Other than that one, Cambodia has a clump of casinos scattered around. The attack once again magnifies the need for strict and rigid security for casinos and other gaming establishments. Vietnam and Cambodia are among some of the most popular venues for poker and casino players, and such an incident can only hinder their lucrativeness as poker venues. Countries like Cambodia, Vietnam and others are the hotbed of poker and casino activity,
It is unclear whether the casino has been, or will be, a venue for poker series. Cambodia has a vibrant poker scene, with major names, including the Asian Poker Tour and WPT, holding regular events in the country. Only this year, their various casinos in Cambodia have hosted 6 poker festivals, beginning with the HuiOne Series of Poker, which went on from the 6th to the 10th of January. The WPT held the WPT Cambodia Championship in Phnom Pehn, which ran from the 17th to 30th January. The upcoming poker series is the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour – APPT Cambodia. With such heavyweights and more in the offing, there’s no doubt that the authorities will look to nip this crime in the bud.

With millions in GTDs and poker players from all over the world visiting the country regularly, the authorities will no doubt go the whole mile to ensure that such incidents don’t happen again.
It should be noted that crimes related to poker games and casinos are few and far between. That’s because every casino has adequate security and defence traits set up. Crimes in casinos have rarely been reported, with only one instance of a shootout at a private poker game cropping up this year.
