Excerpts from the interview…

India Poker Championship (IPC) is back after nearly two years, what’s new in the upcoming edition of IPC?

Amin Rozani: Well, the venue certainly! The team and I are really excited about the fact that the IPC is returning after such a long hiatus and that too in a brand new venue and country. Our home in India and Goa is the Big Daddy casino and we’re delighted to partner up once again with them in their Nepal property called Casino Vegas.

Players have been waiting eagerly for the IPC to return. What kind of a turnout is the brand expecting with the latest edition?

Amin Rozani: A bit difficult to predict this given that it’s our first time in a new country but we’re confident of a very decent turnout and hence our offering a pretty healthy guarantee of ₹3.5 Crore. There is a thirst for live poker among players and we hope to attract all poker enthusiasts from India and neighbouring countries for the event.

Live poker is resuming steadily in India. Recently, the Baazi Poker Tour concluded on a high note, Deltin Poker Tournament kick-starts today (14th April) and IPC will follow in May. How will the live poker scene in India shape up in 2022?

Peter Abraham: As Amin rightfully mentioned the word ‘thirst’, it’s safe to say that all that good attendance at these series (and hopefully ours too) is reflective of the pent up demand within the players. As always, IPC aims to provide players with a world class experience coupled with a convivial atmosphere that is typical of any IPC event.

IPC 2022 will be hosted in Casino Vegas, Nepal. Previously IPC was hosted in Goa. What was the reason for this change in venue and would it impact the event in any way?

Sameer Rattonsey: We want to expand the scope of this brand and it’s been almost a decade since we hosted our maiden international event, IPC Colombo in the island nation of Sri Lanka. Given our comfortable partnership with Big Daddy it made sense for us to explore this new venue/country. Poker players have been open to the idea of at least travelling regionally for events since the latter half of the 2010s and we believe Nepal will also draw healthy participation from the players. Goa has always been our primary home in India so we certainly expect to do more events domestically in the months to come.

India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) is coming in June 2022. This time around the event offers 33 Crore GTD, up from January 2022’s 30 Crore. Will the pumped up GTD prove to be a crowd puller? If yes, to what extent?

Sameer Rattonsey: The IOPC continues to be the top tournament series not just in the country but given our guarantees we are also competing with global brands which is a clear indicator of the fantastic upward trajectory the game is on in these past few years. Poker players are always seeking maximum value for their time and effort so it’s a no-brainer for us to up the guarantees as we see the demand and player base rise. The IOPC has continually managed to cross and even crush its past guarantees and I expect that players will not disappoint us this time around as well.

Folks, a lot is happening in the world of poker and we hope you catch on the fervour. IPC in May and IOPC in June have a lot to offer to all the poker enthusiasts out there.
