Siddharth Karia Spills The Beans On Becoming The First-Ever FCS Champion

Winning poker tournaments is nothing new for regular crusher Siddharth Karia. He’s aggressive when it comes to the game and determined to ace the game by getting better with each passing day. Final Table Series (FTS) Head Hunter, FTS 2.0 Main Event are just some of the many titles this poker pro proudly holds.

Adding another feather to his cap, Karia recently shipped the Freedom Celebration Series (FCS) Main Event. The series that celebrated India’s 75th Independence Day was a 12-day long affair from 4th August to 15th August 2022. The Main Event of the series took place on 14th August 2022 after five starting flights. The ₹11,000 buy-in event advertised a guarantee of ₹1.5 Crore, which was ultimately surpassed as the final prize pool of ₹1,50,80,000 was shared by the top 223 finishers. Out of over 1,300 entries, only 224 made it to Day 2 of the event.

Siddharth Karia Wins FCS

Karia lived up to his moniker ‘SherRun’ by enjoying an incredibly deep run at the Main Event and taking home the lion’s share of the prize pool. After battling across the five flights, he carried four of his stacks with him to the final day of the Main Event like a boss. And after hours of grind on the final day, he finally struck a deal with another popular crusher ‘Pradzzz’ to cash the biggest pay cheque of ₹ 21,28,131 from the event. ‘Pradzzz’ finished at the runner-up spot for ₹20,17,360.

We got in touch with the ‘Schemer’ to understand what it was like for him to become the first-ever FCS champion. “It feels pretty good. Winning a marquee event is always a special feeling, mainly because it usually has a big prize pool and the attention around it.”

It was the first time that the Freedom Celebration Series was hosted on Spartan Poker. And what better than knowing from the first-ever champion himself, how the series was?! “It was indeed a wonderful series. We have been seeing this trend of special tournaments or series around Independence Day and other celebrations on almost all sites. As of Spartan Poker, looking at the success of FCS, it seems like it will be a one of the regular things on the platform. As a regular grinder, I feel very happy to see such a celebratory series,” said Karia.

Just like a true warrior who never goes to a battle without his armoury, a true poker player never plays any game without a strategy. We asked the Gutshot Magazine April 2021 cover star about his strategy going into the Main Event, to which he said, “Main strategy was to enter Day 2 with as many stacks as possible, and I ended up entering with four stacks. It kind of worked out because I was playing on my phone on Saturday to enter Day 2 of this event (on Sunday). And it was this stack that I took forward on Saturday that won me the Main Event. As far as the FT is concerned, there were many good players against whom I am used to playing very often, so the decisions were fairly straightforward. All I had to do was deal with the pressure well.”

He was seen grinding at the 2022 edition of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, where he cashed at six events. With big live poker events currently running in the country and internationally, we curiously asked him if he will be grinding in live events abroad. The MPL Poker pro said for now, he does not have any plans of playing live at least for the next 30 days. Well, that means we might have to wait a bit longer to see the ‘Schemer’ grinding live.

If you follow Karia on Instagram, you will know he is seen streaming his games, interesting hands and sharing valuable insights on how to improve one’s game daily. He added, “Currently I am not streaming poker as such, just sharing a few interesting moments of the grind on my Instagram stories.” When asked whether he plans of streaming poker professionally or having his own YouTube channel, he says, “I would like to create some more content or do more things around poker. But what exactly, that’s still to be decided.”

Well, we look forward to seeing the pro stream his games and share some of his poker strategies with us. We asked him what’s the next big thing on his list. He humbly answered, saying, “I have been mentoring and staking some players for a while now. The plan is to expand the team very soon.”
