Varun ‘iwillbluff’ Gupta wins Spartan TGIF

Spartan Poker’s Friday used to consist of only The Elite with a big guarantee. They innovated again and have now offered another addition to mark Friday as most happening day of the week, the Thank God Its Friday tournament or popularly known as TGIF INR 7 Lakhs GTD.

After 4 runs of the tournament, TGIF was hosted yesterday for the 5^th time and saw the advertised guaranteed amount get crushed too. The tournament drew a total of 286 entries (including 27 re-entries and 118 re-buys) for a buy-in of INR 2,200. The top 23 places saw a pay-check being offered.

Topping this tournament was Varun Gupta aka ‘iwillbluff’, who won the title at 12.17 am today morning. He won INR 1,62,750 as the first-place cash prize and beat ‘Okkkkk’ in heads-up to grab the title. The field would’ve been a tough nut to crack since it included 2019 APT Kickoff Vietnam champion Abhinav Iyer, who finished 7^th for INR 27,720 and other regs of the community.

In the final hand, Gupta had almost twice the chips of his opponent. It was a pre-flop all-in situation with Gupta holding Qh Ac and Okkkkk 8d 8c. The board revealed 2d 7h Qs Kc 2c. Gupta’s Queens and Twos prevailed over Okkkkk’s Eights and Twos. The runner-up eventually settled for INR 1,10,250 as the second-place cash prize.

Gutshot contacted Gupta, who was elated beyond words to speak to us. He said, “I have been playing online poker for many years now and playing on Spartan is like a daily routine. They have a great line up of feature tournaments and this month turned out to be lucky for me. I’m really happy and hope to continue this winning momentum.”

Gupta made an impressive run this month on Spartan. He shipped Two of a Kind on 7^th April. He even won the SSS #1 title and finished 3^rd in Destiny, topping it off with yesterday’s TGIF finish. He will be looking to ship more in coming months.

Siddarth Singhvi aka ‘PeterPunter’ was also in the mix in TGIF last night and finished 10^th for INR 13,650. Singhvi also shipped the PLO HR for an awesome cash prize a day before yesterday on Spartan.
