Folks who follow poker and tennis religiously surely know of Patrik Antonius and his story. He was an aspiring tennis player whose dreams were crushed due to a back injury. This incident was serious enough to send Antonius away from the game. But Antonius wasn’t ready for a defeat!
Back in the day as an aspiring tennis player, the stars looked aligned for this Finn to be among the brightest stars in the galaxy. But news reports state that an issue of bulging disc in Antonius’ back led to this player exiting tennis. The poker world would have been different if Antonius hadn’t faced that injury.

The Finland-born player must have been distraught and who wouldn’t be if their dream to become a professional tennis player is shattered into a million pieces never to come back together as one. Antonius was down but not out!
The Monte Carlo resident reportedly had a keen interest in poker, and it is widely covered in media reports how Antonius played his first game at the age of 18. Yes, you read that correctly! Stories of Antonius’ poker escapades tell us that he took to Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) like a fish takes to water.

The father of two reportedly won big at home games but when it came to poker tables at the casino, a win was hard to find. In 2003, the 42-year-old sunk his teeth in online poker and registered some considerable cashes. Between 2008 and 2013 Antonius reportedly earned around $11 Million on Full Tilt (HighstakesDB).
When it comes to grinding on PokerStars, the Finnish poker pro collected winnings of a little under $6 Million between 2007 and 2016. Coming to live poker, Antonius’ reported cashes date back to 2003. In the same year in November, Antonius aka ‘The Black Lotus‘ Finished fourth for $3,480 in the $200 + $20 Pot Limit Omaha event at the St Maarten Open, St. Maarten. In the year 2005, World Poker Tour (WPT) and World Series of Poker (WSOP) saw Antonius participate and register cashes.
Coming to the more recent past, in September 2022, Antonius shipped the $25,000 No Limit Hold’em-8-Handed (Event #1) at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Cyprus, Kyrenia. With this first place finish, Antonius was able to add a cool $8,25,000 to his bankroll.
There’s no way we can skip talking about Antonius’ WSOP adventures. We mentioned he first played the same coveted series in 2005. But the Finn’s deepest run at WSOP came in July 2007 when he was placed third for $3,11,394 in the $10,000 World Championship Pot Limit Omaha at the 38th WSOP in Las Vegas.
This tennis player turned poker pro’s Hendon Mob stats shed light on his total live earnings, best live cash, his All Time Money List rank among other things. Antonius has accumulated $1,37,90,845 in live winnings with his best cash grab coming from the HK$ 2,000,000 + 100,000 No-Limit Hold’em – Super High Roller Bowl held in Macau in the year 2018. Here, Antonius took a pay cheque of $31,53,551. As for his All Time Money List rank, it stands at 62nd.

Some from his final tables while others from his grind. Antonius has also shared some heart-warming photos alongside his daughter Mila Antonius.
