‘omgrachelgreen’ takes down The Elite on Spartan

Poker is traditionally considered to be one of the more elite mind sports and keeping that in mind, The Spartan Poker hosts a top notch tournament every Friday night to kick off the weekend action. ‘The Elite’ is one of Spartan’s featured tournaments, with a steep buy-in of INR 11,000 and a hefty guarantee of INR 15 lakh.

With the recent success of the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC), a new trend has begun on Spartan, where the guarantees of most big tournaments are being beaten. Similarly, 175 entries registered to yesterday’s tournament and a new prize pool of INR 17.5 lakh was created, which was distributed among the top 15 players with a minimum cash prize of INR 31,500.

It was a long grind for the players, with the tournament beginning at 7:30pm IST last evening, and ending 7 hours and 20 minutes later. The tournament finally came to an end in Level #40, when the blinds were running 12,000/24,000 – 3,000 and both heads-up players went all-in with a similar chip stack.

The player who shipped the tournament seems to be a devoted Jennifer Aniston fan, playing under the name ‘omgrachelgreen’, which is also the name of Aniston’s character in the popular American sitcom, FRIENDS. omgrachelgreen won the final hand against another regular grinder, ‘pokerbill’.

omgrachelgreen held 1,423,054 in chips as compared to pokerbill’s 1,201,946. The latter played the last hand aggressively, trying to bluff his opponent and raising with a hand that wasn’t very strong. He had 9h 7s on a board that opened 6h 4c 3s Tc Kd and continued the bluff, going all-in on the river.

However, omgrachelgreen would’ve known the opponent after so many hours of playing together. The player called the bluff with Th 5c and a pair of tens, winning the pot and The Elite title. It was a big prize pool and omgrachelgreen was rewarded handsomely, taking home INR 4,47,125 for first place. The runners-up prize was also a pretty big one of INR 3,08,000, so pokerbill would’ve been a happy player as well.
