NRAI welcomes IOC’s move to launch Olympic Virtual Series

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently announced its partnership with five international sports federations and game publishers to launch the Olympic Virtual Series (OVS). The partnership is considered as a welcome move for the Indian esports industry. IOC’s initiative will help boost esports in India by identifying the talent in the country and grooming the upcoming players.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) works towards reducing the gap between real-world shooting sport and it’s virtual variant. The shooting event at OVS will be the first e-shooting event wherein the virtual game will abide by the non-violent gaming rules and principles set by the IOC and the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

OVS will be held between May 13th and June 23rd ahead of the Tokyo Olympics 2021. The virtual series will bring together esports enthusiasts from across the world and will reach a new set of audiences.

NRAI president Raninder Singh said, “We welcome the IOC’s move to introduce a virtual esport version of real world physical sport in the inaugural Olympic Virtual Series. We are sure this will encourage people to take up these sports virtually and potentially chart a way for them to emerge as champions in the physical sport”

NRAI is also working with Mobile Premier League (MPL) to develop a mobile variant of the shooting game. The mobile version is expected to release on Independence Day, August 15th 2021. The game will have a simulator, nonviolent model which will follow ISSF’s trap and skeet formats. Along with launching the game, NRAI will also arrange hybrid tournaments on Independence Day. The best virtual shooters will be selected and trained by notable shooting champions in the country.

NRAI believes that the infrastructure needed for the physical shooting games will require a lot of development. It is also inaccessible to a lot of Indians. Virtual versions can help the sport get more attention and could also provide an entry point for the shooting aficionados.
