The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be opening its doors to the world of esports through the introduction of the Olympic Virtual Series (OVS). This marks the inclusion of esports and gaming on the mainstream stage. As per reports, the IOC has partnered with five international sports federations and publishers to make the event a grand success. This will be the first-ever Olympic-licensed event in the physical and non-physical category of virtual sports.

However, other than the announcement for OVS, there has been no details or information on the prize pool of the games and how to participate in them. It has been assured that major announcements regarding OVS and the games included in it will also be released in the coming days. Audiences will be able to watch the event live on the Olympic channel.
Over the years, esports has slowly started to gain mainstream recognition in the world. With the pandemic lockdowns further accelerating the process. Early this year, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced that it would now recognize esports as an official sport in the country. Previously, it was revealed that esports would also be included as a medal sport in the Asian Games 2022.
Now, with the OVS slated to take place on 13 May, esports have come a long way to be recognized on an international stage. OVS could also be a step taken by the Olympic Council towards getting more youth participation and open its doors to newer and younger audiences.
