Man Arrested in Nevada Over Refusal to Wear Mask

With the COVID-19 pandemic on the rise, new rules and regulations are established by the Nevada state for the safety of the people. The virus had put a halt to the casinos and hotels across Nevada. According to a public information report, Cristobal Balassa refused to leave or put on a face mask when confronted by security guards at the bar of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Stateline, Nevada on Saturday.

Nevada health officials reported 491 more confirmed cases of coronavirus on Monday and four more deaths. The cumulative number of state-wide COVID-19 cases now is 22,930 with 537 deaths. On 24 June, Governor Steve Sisolak ordered that face coverings be worn by Nevada residents and visitors “in any generally publicly accessible space”.

For most people, the corona virus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. But for some, especially adults and people with existing health problems — it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death. Many retail businesses have been reopened since June and have brought mixed reactions from the public in compliance to the requirement of wearing a mask in the store. Many states have complied with the regulation by public experts to stop the spread of the virus.

It has become clear throughout the country that some people are refusing to wear a mask, claiming that “This is America. The land of free.” The rules were applied to both the customer and the staff present. Casinos have implemented strict policies at tables for the safety of their staff and customers, Plexiglass is one the steps taken to ensure that their staff who attend tables for hours with various people throughout the day, are at a safe distance.
