What are the similarities between Indian poker pro Nikita Luther and international poker star John Hennigan? Yes, both are World Series Of Poker bracelet winners, but there’s one more similarity. Both of them love playing pool. While the game is Luther’s second love, Hennigan used to be a professional pool player. This player hailed from Philadelphia and learned the game of pool quite early. With time his interest drifted towards poker, and he started running deep. Although he made the switch, Hennigan was not in the spotlight for quite some time in the poker world.

This six-time WSOP bracelet winner made it big in the 1999 WSOP Main Event, but he could not crush an event until 2002. Hennigan shipped the $2,000 H.O.R.S.E event and thickened his bankroll by $117,320. Hennigan returned to the WSOP felts yet again in 2004. This time around, he claimed one more bracelet in the $5,000 Limit Hold’em where he was pitted against players like T.J. Cloutier, Dived Chiu and James McManus at the final table and earned $325,360 in prize money.

For the next ten years, this player was inside the shell. In 2014, Hennigan was back to the live felts where he tried his hand at the $50,000 The Poker Players Championship wherein he cashed a massive $1,517,767 in prize money. In the next two consecutive years, this player from Philadelphia won two more bracelets. In 2016 he crushed the $10,000 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (Limit) Championship event and in 2018 he nailed the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship. Hennigan, who holds the 4th position in Pennsylvania’s all-time money list, took home his last bracelet in a $10,000 Seven Card Stud event which was hosted in 2019. He took a pay cheque of $245,451.
Hennigan secured his seventh World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet by winning $138,296 in Event #7. Although Hennigan began the final day without the chip lead, an early double elimination allowed him to build a substantial stack. He sustained this momentum throughout the heads-up match, ultimately claiming his latest WSOP title. By shifting from Stud to No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw, Hennigan capitalised on his advantage, securing both the title and his seventh bracelet. Reflecting on his win, Hennigan commented, “I guess I’ll be in the mix for Player of the Year now.”
Meanwhile, Shaun Deeb, who also started the final day with six WSOP bracelets, was not as fortunate, finishing just outside the final table in ninth place. Swedish phenom Viktor Blom took fourth place, setting the stage for Hennigan, known as ‘Johnny World,’ to dominate the event. Hennigan entered the final duel with a 5:1 chip lead against British player Robert Wells.
