Daniel Negreanu is forcing our hands to do something we have rarely done – writing about movies, horror movies, at that. Poker is one of the few ways to get popular and rich by doing what one loves – going all in the felt. He is now charting new paths after some of the most incredible wins in poker tournaments and winning multiple bracelets at WSOP events.
Negreanu has achieved several feats in the poker world, and will soon be featuring a horror-comedy, in which he will share screen space with former Superman Brandon Routh. The movie also stars Mena Suvari and Malina Weissman. It is not clear what role Daniel plays, and whether he plays a poker player, like in the other projects he was a part of. Whatever role the poker player has decided on, poker fans will rush to theaters to check exactly what their poker idol is doing in the movie. After all, he has other interests that his fans already know – including playing the MMORPG Hearthstone and streaming it on his Twitch channel.

Daniel was earlier featured as a poker player in some projects, most famously in the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He has also featured in Katy Perry’s “Waking Up in Vegas”, a tribute to the concept of ‘What happens in Vegas, remains in Vegas.”
According to IMBD, Ick’s plot is about a science teacher reconnecting with his first love and suspects that a new student is his daughter, even as the town he lives in faces an alien threat. Joseph Kahn, who has earlier directed Detention (2011) and Bodies (2017) and others, helms this one and a TV series titled Tilt (2005). It will be interesting to see whether the movie has some poker-themed scenes. Ick released sometime in 2024.

Negreanu is among the famous poker players globally and has 7 World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets and 2 World Poker Tour (WPT) championship titles. The Canadian earned the term ‘Kid Poker’ because he started playing the game at a young age and turned professional at 22. In 2004, Card Player magazine named him Card Player of the Year. At the time of writing this article, he is the 7th on the All-Time Money List. With $50 Million+ in wins, he is one of the top earners of the game of all time and has one of the biggest fan followings.
Meanwhile, Daniel Negreanu is confirmed to appear at the World Series of Poker Paradise, the next stop in the WSOP circuit, which takes place in Atlantis City, Bahamas from 6th December to 19th December 2024.
With the Canadian poker player signing up for one more prominent role in movies, it remains to be seen if other poker players take the cue and start exploring a secondary career in Hollywood.
