Justin Bonomo Faces Heat From Vanessa Selbst Over Israel-Palestine Tweet

The Israel-Palestine conflict has taken the world aback, with multiple high-profile individuals expressing their thoughts and concerns about the war. Numerous people have lost their lives, with billions worth of properties destroyed since the conflict broke out in October 2023. 

People worldwide have shared their thoughts about the ongoing conflict including the poker fraternity. Justin Bonomo, one of the most well-known poker professionals in the world, has been extremely vocal on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) and has spoken about the ongoing atrocities. However, the American poker pro finds himself in trouble citing one of his statements. 

A part of Bonomo’s tweet dated 21st December 2023 read, “As for the rapes: I’m dubious that any of the claims are true, and I’m pissed at Israel for ordering that they not be investigated. If they did occur, I hope every rapist rots in prison.”

While the number 2 on the All Time Money List claims to be unsure of the rapes, he questions why the state of Israel isn’t investigating it while also claiming that the culprits should be in prison if found guilty.

This comment by Bonomo caught the eye of several of his followers, notable poker players, and colleagues. Matt Glantz decided to act upon Bonomo’s comment and shared his thoughts on the same.

Taking a screenshot of Bonomo’s tweet, he added the image to his post and captioned it with, “Bonomo wrote a mostly beautiful long post on Christmas Day clarifying his positions on Israel/Gaza. Well-known female poker pro from the international circuit Vanessa Selbst questioned Bonomo’s thoughts following Glantz’s tweet and asked, “Doesn’t your very contrarian assumption make you question your bias here?”

@JustinBonomo – usually I find ur POV interesting and even when its extreme I can get where ur coming from. But here, how is the default assumption w no evidence not “terrorists gonna rape + torture”? Doesnt your very contrarian assumption make you question your bias here?

While Bonomo didn’t respond to the question raised by his fellow poker colleagues, he did reason his idea of not responding much in a certain thread. He also went on to ask Selbst and Daniel Negreanu to just ask him questions straight up and avoid making any assumptions.

It remains interesting to see if Bonomo can manage to sort out any assumptions people are holding against him and provide clarity on his comments.
